Dailies for the week of December 1-5, 2014

All five dailies came out on the day they were supposed to this week. I deserve a reward. (This is the point when I go eat an entire cheesecake)

MONDAY

Joe Bush, digital historian of pointless things. Most notable about this video is a young Kirk Herbstreit wearing a backwards hat, and how proud they were of the cheerleader mo-cap. Funny how this was all new in 2003 and it was all out when 2008 rolled around. New hardware brings regression for a few years.

TUESDAY

I was so carsick during this entire song, which is theoretically a Thanksgiving song but if you start listening to it on Thanksgiving it may as well be a Christmas song because it takes three weeks to complete. It’s like one of my favorite songs, Cousin Earl, but without the entertainment value or pork sausage and with more of an emphasis on protest, war, and thanksgiving. Do military psychiatrists have to deal with this a lot, a bunch of 18 year old kids saying “you can get anything you want at Alice’s restaurant” every day? They probably think they’re clever.

WEDNESDAY

I beat the shit out of Cal and I get very sad about the prospect of KU football.

THURSDAY

I wore flannel every day this week

FRIDAY

This is a video for class. Based on the three paragraphs of negative feedback I got on it, stay away from it. This feels terrible.

A list of names and also the term “KU Football Head Coaching Search”

I do not know whether or not we’re actually considering these people but I have put their names in bold. They are people and the University of Kansas does have a football team. This article has no meaning and should not be read, however I still wrote many names, read them if you like or do not if you do not like. I know nothing. I am stretching this first part out so you will skim over it. The above picture of Mark Mangino is my favorite picture of him. Look at his hand on the other man’s face, like some bizarre hug.

Mon(Tuesday)day Update: 12/2/14

Okay well there wasn’t an update last week. There are two reasons why: First, I didn’t have very much to say. I played the same two games I’ve been playing forever last week, NBA 2K15 and Klonoa 2: Dream Champ Tournament and that’s basically it. Second, other, more important things were happening last Monday and I’d be the most blind person in the world to think anyone would want to break up the serious conversations on race and the police with a post on why I hate auto-scrolling levels.

and I have no reason why it didn’t come out yesterday. Anyway,

Klonoa 2: Dream Champ Tournament (GBA): Fourth Appearance, Fourth Straight Appearance

I hate auto-scrolling levels, especially in a puzzle-platformer like this. You’ll notice my favorite games in this genre, Donkey Kong ’94 and Wario Land 3 had no levels like this. Thankfully, there’s only one that I found, and I was able to skip it. This is still a good game.

Clockwork Knight (SAT): First Appearance

I first played this game last Wednesday, and I need to ask one question about it: For those of you who grew up before having the ability to save games, how did you manage? I mean, I know you have at least a few hours off at some point in your life, but let’s say you get really far in a game like Clockwork Knight, or Super Mario Bros. 3 and it’s late at night, and you have to get up for work or school the next morning. Do you stop the game and come back to the beginning the next day, or do you keep the console running all night? I did that with a PS2 once accidentally, and the disc drive stopped working. Maybe hardware was different back then, maybe that’s why so much hardware fails with age. To be fair, the Saturn is unusually durable for a video game console. Having the ability to save your game is a necessity for modern children such as myself.

Daytona USA (SAT)First Appearance

I love this game. Even this shitty port, which isn’t close to the arcade version at all. It’s one of those games I can spend hours playing late at night and not think of anything else. It’s like comfort food. I know that I can play Daytona for a little while, watch myself get better and better at racing over the course of a night, and then put the controller down and go to bed. I’ve always had games like these. When I was in middle school I would aimlessly skate around in Tony Hawk’s American Wasteland when I was angry, it was something I could do while I thought.

There’s a word for this: Escapism. A temporary evasion of the real responsibilities and tragedies of life. doot do do doot do doot do doo dooooooooooo

Dailies for the week of November 24th-29th

MONDAY

Stop these serial liars we call “birds.” Actually, I’ve done some research and it’s very possible that these aren’t real animals at all, very possibly people wearing the skins of animals. Fucked up, man. Especially since we make them wear clothes.

TUESDAY

I’m a gonna win

WEDNESDAY

Halftime challenges are always fodder for dailies. Particularly because they involve non-athletes doing athletic things, which is always funny and never goes well. Except for that one girl who threw the football in the big can of Dr. Pepper and won a scholarship for it. Do you think she puts that on resumes? I would. and I would describe how I earned it in far too much detail.

FRIDAY

I didn’t put anything up on Thursday so I did the thing where I put two videos up the next day as a way to pay for my sins.

The immediate change in expression is tremendous, thank you dad. If I ever produce anything resembling actual television comedy, the snap-zoom will be the focal point of the show. It is the funniest possible thing, as exemplified by Cheap Seats’ “Do You Care” segment

AGAIN ON FRIDAY

I bought a Hauppauge. I bought a Hauppauge. I’m no longer using a Pinnacle Dazzle, as I now own a Hauppauge. Also I’m still playing a basketball game from 2006, and I dunked on my own teammate.

Dailies for the week of November 17th-21th

MONDAY

It’s good how the XBOX One allows me to record weird moments like that. Rudy Gay is very eager to get that shit out of there

TUESDAY

True Story: I hadn’t listened to this album since I was in the 7th grade, as I was a huge fan of FOB back in 7th grade. I then found it for six dollars at a Hastings, and then put it in to find out that I still knew like every word. Some stuff sticks around ,I guess.

WEDNESDAY

WOOOLOOLOOLOOLOOLOOLOOLOOLOOLOO

THURSDAY

Get ready for this 24 hour stream! I’ll be 2 hours or so late to the filming, but hey, I’ll be there for 22 hours of it. MegaMan

FRIDAY

This isn’t even a real bird. It’s a large bird, but it clearly cannot fly and cannot shoot threes which isn’t surprising, being a bird.

Old Sports Games Afterthoughts: MLB 2005

Before I do any review, I ask myself one question: Why did I buy this game? Or at least, why would I? Most of the time, the answer is “I thought it would be interesting for a video.” In those cases, there’s not much of a story. In the case of MLB 2005, however, I had a strange reason. The same reason why I bought NBA 2K8 last year: It was the final appearance of a certain franchise before they left town. In 2K8, it was the Seattle Supersonics, one of the most depressing and yet still incredibly memorable instances of any team being ripped away from a city’s hands. In MLB 2005? The Montréal Expos.

I stopped watching baseball heavily after the Red Sox won the World Series in 2004. The reasons behind this are muddy, but they involve me finding out about college football, developing a love for the sport of football, and then also me not playing a single baseball video game for several years. This was actually probably the first baseball game I bought with the intention of playing since I bought MLB Pennant Race for the PS1 with the intent of reviewing it for Old Sports Games episode 9 back in early 2011. Also, the Royals gutted our season ticket seats in 2008 and I didn’t go to a baseball game between then and May of 2014. I went to a game in May and then one in June of this year, and I’ll probably go to some more next year. Baseball and I are making amends.

I didn’t own a PS2 until 2005, so the era of NFL Gameday and 989’s MLB series totally passed me by (sans a PS1 copy of NFL Gameday 2004, which I never got into because it’s not a good game). What I’m trying to get at here is that I have virtually no connection to this series. I really don’t have much of a connection to baseball video games in general, specifically MLB games. I played the shit out of Mario Superstar Baseball on the GameCube, however.

Monday Update: 11/17/14

NBA 2K15 (XBONE): Sixth Appearance, Sixth Straight Appearance

I chose to play for the Kings. You may remember the Kings as the team I played for in 2K14, and that’s absolutely why I went to them again. In the first season, I would constantly be left on the pick and roll kicking out to a wide open Small Forward (Michael Kidd-Gilchrist) in the corner, who would proceed never to knock down the open 3. The Kings have Rudy Gay, and I’m gonna make him a star, baby. Generally if I give him the ball and he’s open, not only will he take the shot, but he’ll knock it down! It’s a miracle. Goodbye MKG, goodbye Lance Stephenson, goodbye Cody Zeller and Al Jefferson, goodbye to that first round sweep in the playoffs against the Cavaliers that I totally saw coming.

I didn’t do anything in MyTeam because I just gave up on my dream of ever having a good team or ever getting a gold level player in a pack. It’s spending 10 dollars gambling on something I don’t care about which will only yield a digital version of Ricky Rubio if I’m lucky. It’s a devil’s game.

Klonoa 2: Dream Champ Tournament: Second Appearance, Second Straight Appearance

I stuck with a game for once… I’m proud of myself. Not really proud of myself, because it’s actually an excellent game, and I didn’t have to convince myself to come back to it. It’s also very easy, which I’d expect as it’s more of a puzzle-based platformer rather than a traditional platformer. I always prefer games like that, because I don’t have great reflexes and get discouraged very easily. It reminds me of Donkey Kong for the Game Boy, which is absolutely a compliment as that’s one of my favorite handheld console games.

Unreal (PC): First Appearance

You can buy this game for cheap off of gog.com right now if you want. It’s okay but it’s very similar to other shooters of that era, so if you aren’t fictional guns and hallways, you might stay away. Interesting how each level is credited to a designer, and also very interesting how good it looks on a modern PC. Maybe it’s because I expect it to look like it did on a low-end Compaq in 1999, but I’m still pretty impressed. It runs really well, is what I’m saying.

Dailies for November 10th-14th, 2014

MONDAY

This is indeed Slide Oil

TUESDAY

I got a C on this assignment because I wrote my script in the wrong format and didn’t play the trombone in the video. This is the first daily to be referred to as “average” and not “do you really do this stupid shit every weekday?” A landmark occasion

WEDNESDAY

OLD SPORTS GAMES AIN’T DEAD but nobody watched this video I guess oh well.

THURSDAY

That was an early take of Old Sports Games #26

FRIDAY

Okay so I tried to record using my TASCAM pocket recorder since my real microphone died and it didn’t go too hot. That’s why I used my camera’s mic during OSG26.

Monday Update: 11/10/14

Alrighty then, The Monday Update

NBA 2K15 (XBONE): Fifth Appearance, Fifth Straight Appearance

So this week my hornets team made the playoffs. Also I tried to play in MyTeam, but dear god it’s so hard to get gold players of any kind out of any packs. Maybe someday I’ll get like at least Monta Ellis or Josh Smith or somebody but for now I’m doing okay with entirely silver players.

I’m an 8th seed playing against the Cavaliers in the playoffs so I’m guessing a first round exit, I’m guessing a sweep is probably in my future. Until then, I’m gonna keep playing and keep muttering that Kyrie’s totally overrated.

RollerCoaster Tycoon (PC): Fourth Appearance, Last Appearance 9/5/14

AHAHAHAHAHAHA OH MY GOD OKAY

First of all: This was one of the rides that I spent the most time on, because it was the end of the year, I had a lot of money, and I could afford to get it going. I was pretty proud of it, honestly.

Second: I always save immediately after I complete an objective out of habit. This is the only time that something like this has happened.

Third: I swear this has happened before when I made a pseudo-ramp of sorts on the raft ride, and both times it has been unintentional

Fourth: LOOK AT THE WAY THOSE INFLATABLE RAFTS EXPLODE INTO FLAMES! THAT’S RIDICULOUS AND I LOVE IT

Klonoa 2: Dream Champ Tournament (GBA): First Appearance

I bought this game yesterday to commemorate the finding of my Game Boy Micro and the purchasing of a charger for it because I can’t find mine anywhere. I actually played the PS2 version of Klonoa 2 a long time ago (we’re talking probably eight to nine years ago) and this is much different, more similar to the PlayStation original.

I played this game on the bus to class for maybe twelve minutes, and I really enjoyed it. At one point, I yawned, stretched, and realized that I was about to puke unless I stopped playing almost immediately. I’m 19. I assumed that I had outgrown carsickness. I have not, and I’d like to thank Klonoa for showing that to me.

Dailies for the week of November 3rd-7th, 2014

MONDAY

I made this video for class. Is this cheating? Yes, absolutely. But I worked on a video so I feel like it counts

TUESDAY

This is a bad video in response to another video

WEDNESDAY

dear god Canneth, please, god, please, help, please Canneth, I need you to cooperate. I won Canneth (known as “Coke Can Wearing Sunglasses and Hat” or “Cool Coke Can” until this year in which I named him after a particular teacher’s assistant that my girlfriend had) in a crane machine in 2007. He sat in a box from probably 2008-2014, and then reemerged this year in a series of vines that changed the world

also he appeared in a video in April as well

Canneth gets around. Canneth gets around.

THURSDAY

You see this is why I don’t build coasters for a living

FRIDAY

If anyone knows where I can dispose of this large brick of a console that I like but apparently isn’t good, please tell me so I may rid it from my sight. Thanks.
